Welcome to the Self-Paced Online Phlebotomy Course. This program is designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed to perform safe, accurate, and professional blood collection. Whether you are new to healthcare or expanding your clinical abilities, this course allows you to learn at your own pace while building a strong foundation in phlebotomy.

You will learn how to adapt your interactions with patients, properly identify individuals, and prevent common pre-analytical errors. The course covers blood composition, the clotting process, and types of blood specimens, along with essential information on healthcare governing agencies, laboratory safety, and infection control.

You will also learn how to respond to complications, understand legal and ethical concepts, and use effective communication in patient care. Technical skills such as quality control, specimen handling and processing, and point-of-care testing are included, as well as training on non-blood specimens, special collections, capillary puncture, and post-puncture care.

To ensure accuracy in every procedure, you’ll review tube fill levels, inversions, labeling requirements, and the order of draw. You’ll also explore laboratory departments, collection tubes, blood tests, and tube additives. Venipuncture training includes site selection, preparation, and evaluation of pre-test conditions.

By the end of the Self-Paced Online Phlebotomy Course, you will have a solid understanding of phlebotomy principles and procedures, preparing you to perform blood collection with confidence and professionalism.

Students who plan on taking national exams published by other entities should be aware that the course content may not be fully compatible with those exams.

The course content is based on NCCT guidelines and would be of greatest benefit to students preparing to take the NCCT exam for phlebotomy certification.

Not all NCCT guidelines reflect actual clinical laboratory practices. Students should be reminded to always follow their own facility’s guidelines.
